Book Design
by Emma Scott-Child
Emma Scott-Child is a book designer specialising in art, photography, and fashion publications. Beginning her career in independent magazines, she later transitioned to designing art books for Damien Hirst’s imprint, Other Criteria / MurderMe. Since then, Emma has collaborated with major publishers and independent clients, including Penguin Random House, Vermilion, HarperCollins, Trolley Books, and Kehrer. Her keen eye for layout, narrative, and visual sequencing results in meticulously crafted books that seamlessly complement the author’s work.
With 20 years of experience in branding, art direction, and photography, Emma approaches each book as a unique artistic piece with its own distinct aesthetic.
For creative publications, the artwork takes center stage. The design of the final piece should subtly support and showcase the artist’s vision without overshadowing it. Character and identity emerge through the careful selection of materials, print details, and thoughtful layout choices. Some publications serve as brand amplification for an author or gallery, while others transform creative ideas into tangible realities. Emma’s expertise in publishing, art, and design brings these projects to life on the page.
Emma takes on a select number of books per year and is available to work on publishing projects worldwide. She is based in Brighton, UK.
